Entry into Uruguay for foreign property owners

From 1 September, entry into Uruguay was opened to owners of real estate located in Uruguay, and to holders of shares and beneficial owners of legal entities that own such property.

Property owners may enter together with first-degree relatives by blood (parents and children) and second-degree relatives by blood (siblings, grandparents and grandchildren).

To apply for the exceptional entry permit, applicants must submit a notarial certificate issued by a Notary Public authorised in Uruguay, or a sworn statement setting out the details of the property.

In addition, those entering under this exception must prove that they have received the single dose or both doses, depending on the type of vaccine, of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine approved by their country of origin, within the six months prior to entering the country, and that the waiting period required by that vaccine to achieve effective immunity has elapsed.

Once granted, the permit must be used once within 60 days; if entering with a family group, all its members must enter together. A second PCR test must be taken on the seventh day after the first test taken before entering the country; otherwise, a 14-day quarantine must be observed.
