Article 169 of Law No. 20,075 introduced changes to the legal residency procedure for nationals of MERCOSUR member and associated states. The procedure will be transferred to the National Migration Office of the Ministry of the Interior.
The aim of the change is to concentrate the processing of all residency categories in a single authority and to allow applications to be filed in any department of the country.
Accordingly, from February, appointments to file residency applications in all categories, and renewals of residency certificates, will be handled by the National Migration Office.
As regards applications already filed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, applicants who had not received a decision on their residency application by 17 February 2023 must continue their procedure with the National Migration Office.
